CURATORIAL TEXT FOR THE EXHIBITION
Nová séria kresieb Pavla Trubena nadväzuje na autorov kontinuálny záujem o mýtus a mytologickú faunu, ktorej spoločným menovateľom je v tomto prípade mýtický pes Kerberos – strážca antického podsvetia, najčastejšie zobrazovaný s tromi hlavami. Podobne ako v starších prácach, mýtus nepredstavuje prostriedok na rekonštrukciu minulosti, ale je úvahou o povahe obrazu v postfaktuálnej dobe – o tom, ako významy vznikajú, transformujú sa a zanikajú.
Kľúčovým princípom série je triplikácia obrazu, na ktorú odkazuje názov výstavy Polycefália symbolu. Symboly fungujú ako otvorené štruktúry, prostredníctvom ktorých autor reflektuje mechanizmy súčasnej vizuálnej kultúry. Ich pôvodný význam sa v Trubenových kresbách postupne rozkladá pod vplyvom informačného prostredia, v ktorom sa významy neustále prepisujú, vrstvia a strácajú pevné ukotvenie. Motívy psov, mačiek, králikov či vtáctva sa navzájom prestupujú a vytvárajú hybridné konfigurácie, v ktorých symbol nadobúda nové významové asociácie. Kerberos tak prestáva byť konkrétnou mytologickou postavou a stáva sa metaforou procesu neustálej premeny obsahu. Tá môže viesť až k úplnému odtrhnutiu od pôvodného významu a k redukcii na formu bez historického ukotvenia. Podobne ako autor v niektorých dielach prekrýva detailne vypracovanú kresbu zvieracieho motívu rýchlou gestickou kresbou, aj význam symbolu zostáva prekrytý novými interpretačnými vrstvami.
Mnohohlavý Kerberos dnes môže byť psom, rovnako mačkou alebo iným zvieraťom, či nositeľom množstva nových individuálnych mytológií, ale aj skratkových interpretácií šírených napríklad v online priestore.

Pavol Truben’s new series of drawings builds on the artist’s continuous interest in myth and mythological fauna, whose common denominator in this case is the mythical dog Cerberus – the guardian of the ancient underworld, most commonly depicted with three heads. As in his earlier works, myth does not serve as a means of reconstructing the past, but rather as a reflection on the nature of the image in the post-truth era – on how meanings emerge, transform, and disappear.
The key principle of the series is the triplication of the image, to which the exhibition title Polycephaly of the Symbol refers. Symbols function as open structures through which the artist reflects on the mechanisms of contemporary visual culture. Their original meaning gradually disintegrates in Truben’s drawings under the influence of the information environment, in which meanings are constantly rewritten, layered, and lose their stable anchoring. Motifs of dogs, cats, rabbits, and birds permeate one another, creating hybrid configurations in which the symbol acquires new semantic associations. Cerberus thus ceases to be a specific mythological figure and becomes a metaphor for the process of the continuous transformation of content. This process may ultimately lead to a complete detachment from the original meaning and to a reduction to form without historical anchoring. Just as, in some of his works, the artist overlays a meticulously executed drawing of an animal motif with a rapid gestural drawing, the meaning of the symbol likewise remains obscured beneath new interpretative layers.
Today, the many-headed Cerberus may be a dog, a cat, another animal altogether, or the bearer of countless new personal mythologies, as well as simplified interpretations circulating, for example, in online spaces.
